ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Charles Dean Domingue was born and raised in rural Lafayette Parish, Louisiana, surrounded by the rhythm of Creole life and language. His grandparents were sharecroppers who worked the vast sugarcane and cotton plantations of the early twentieth century, passing down stories of faith, endurance, and identity. His grandmother, Elle Vige Hollier Angelle, spoke only French and often reminded him, “Oubli pas ton langue Français; c’est la langue à toi.” “Don’t forget your French language; it’s your language.” Those words became the foundation of his deep respect for culture, ancestry, and storytelling.
Domingue earned degrees in Engineering from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and Law from Louisiana State University. He practiced patent law for more than 34 years, later serving as Director of the Office of Innovation Management at ULL. Yet, throughout his professional life, writing remained his true calling. In 1983, he studied creative writing under acclaimed Louisiana novelist Ernest J. Gaines, whose mentorship taught him to write with honesty, empathy, and historical depth.
When Domingue began writing his first historical novel in April 2023, he approached it with the same precision he once brought to law and engineering. He spent months conducting extensive research, reading over a dozen non-fiction books, and consulting with a Haitian history expert, a literary scholar, and a professional copy editor to ensure authenticity and depth. Every scene and character was shaped by careful study of real events, faith traditions, and cultural truths that defined the late 18th-century Caribbean and Louisiana.
Today, when not writing, Charles enjoys sailing his 1980 Cape Dory Cutter “ACADIE” on Lake Pontchartrain or riding his 1982 Bianchi bike along the Mississippi levee in Baton Rouge. His work blends fact, folklore, and faith, reflecting a lifelong pursuit of justice, truth, and the enduring human spirit that connects the past to the present.
